Teaching Kids Thanks

In the December/January issue of Family Fun, Stacy Falk writes about curing her kid’s case of the “gimmes” with a fun game: everyone scours the house for the perfect “present” (any object from the house, be it nice, useful, or bizarre), hands it to the recipient, and then the recipient has to say thank you AND come up with a complement (ie, “I love this red blanket. It will keep me cozy at nap time” or “Thanks for this empty toilet paper roll. I can use it to make crafts.”)
Falk reports that not only has the Present Game improved her kid’s ability to thank people for gifts in the appropriate fashion, but that it is so entertaining that her kids request to play it just for fun.
